Coral’s Art Studio
Coral Fourie (nee Knobel) was born in 1937. She spent a large part of her formative years in the Kalahari of Botswana where she befriended the Bakwena tribe of the Batswana, Bakgalagadi, G/annaa, G/wii, and /Khuaa San peoples . The impressions which impacted most on her psyche were doing traditional wall paintings with coloured mud and cow dung with her playmates' mothers and watching Bushmen doing etchings on ostrich eggshells. She has participated in 33 exhibitions, mostly solo shows, completed numerous commissions, has been included in numerous collections and has written 3 books on Bushmen legends, which were translated in English, Afrikaans, German and French. She is married to Jan Fourie and four children and lived mainly in rural areas in Limpopo, former Transkei, Lebowa, Bophutatswana and presently resides in Parys in the Free State.
